Motivational speaking (Guest Speaker)
2009 Smith Family, Changing Gears program,

Stephen Gniel, Principal, Macgregor Primary School said ‘It was fantastic to have Caroline Buchannan help us launch the Changing Gears program at our school. Caroline spoke to our whole school assembly about her wonderful experiences riding bikes throughout the world and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The students really appreciated Caroline spending time with them, talking and signing autographs. She is such a wonderful ambassador for her sport.’
I really enjoyed being a guest speaker at the launch of a bike awareness program being piloted through MacGregor Primary School in the ACT. I was able to speak to the students about my sporting journey and how important it is to stay fit and healthy.
The Smith Family has developed this program, and MacGregor Primary School will be one of the first in Canberra to take advantage of the program.
Changing Gears is a holistic educational engagement program promoting exercise, healthy eating and participation in an active lifestyle and cycling safety. The Smith Family has partnered with MacGregor PS to deliver the program in the ACT. The school has received 16 bikes and bike racks, 16 helmets, 8 bike pumps and a comprehensive ‘Cycle Program Lessons Plan’ which target road safety, bike maintenance and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

2008 School Girls Morning Tea
"Champions to inspire school girls"

Roughly 700 school girls, teachers, Coaches and athletes will attend this function by Sport and
Recreation ACT.
Dear Caroline,
On behalf of the ACT Women’s Advisory Committee on Sport and Recreation (WAC) I would like to thank you for your involvement in the 2008 School Girls Morning Tea. I would especially like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to attend the event; it was much appreciated by the committee, the students and the teachers.
Due to your great support and enthusiasm towards the event the WAC are confident that the aim of motivating, educating and inspiring young local women to continue participating in structured and unstructured sport and physical activity was achieved.
Your involvement as a key speaker provided the school girls with the chance to listen to your experiences of succeeding in a male dominated sport, the places that your chosen sport has taken you and the positive effect that it has had on your life. We believe that you and the other key speakers have inspired and motivated the attending young women to continue in sport and physical activity.
The feedback we have received has been extremely positive from the students and with many teachers stating that their students returned to school ‘buzzing’.
This is the second year the School Girls Morning Tea has been held in the ACT, and we hope the event will become an annual occurrence. We look forward to working with you in future.
Once again we thank you very much for your involvement.
Yours sincerely,
Heather Reid
